Le Grand Malheur (The Great Tragedy)

Created and Performed by Agnés Limbos
with the invaluable collaboration of Anne Marie Loop

grand-malheur"The known is finite, the unknown infinite; intellectually we stand on an islet in the midst of an illimitable ocean of inexplicability. Our business in every generation is to reclaim a little more land, to add something to the extent and the solidity of our possessions."
T.H. Huxley 1887

"All alone, in nothingness, I was bored ... oh, how I was bored ... terribly bored.
Of course that's normal, you will say, in nothingness, since there is nothing and nothing at all ... and in all of this, I fell, and it was a mess, full of stuff, belongings, and even bits and pieces! And as they had no name, I gave them one. And suddenly, Gougougahgah, the unkempt one, he alighted on me and told me, in the hollow of my ear ... say, do you hear that little squeak? "
Le Barbu

The show was born from the pleasure of creating from nothing, with little bits of nothing at all, a story.
The joy of discovering a face, a body, a character, in a tree branch, and finding him a name.
The pleasure of evoking a flowing river through the use of a blue cloth.
The pleasure of recognizing a sheep, or an elephant in a passing cloud.
To take another look at the world, a look that would reflect upon the hidden meaning of things, that would teach us that everything is in everything and that we all (us and things) are a part of the same system.

This show received the Press Pick as well as a special mention for the creative team from the Committee of Experts at the Rencontres Sélection de Huy in August 1993.
