| About Object Theater |
|
For the past several years, in collaboration with or at the request of cultural and pedagogical organizations, Compagnie Gare Centrale has organized laboratories, courses and workshops. Led by: Agnés Limbos, alone or assisted by Isabelle Darras or Julie Tenret Everything revolves around the exploration of the specific playful and poetic universes that emerge from the encounter between actor/manipulator and object. A specific and unique form of theater where the object is manipulated in plain sight, and where both actor and object occupy the center of the space. A theater without curtains, using metaphor, symbolism, evocation, suggestion, taking short-cuts. A "theatre d'auteur." "I have the impression of being a film director: there are close-ups, wide shots, changes in scale... The expression 'Object Theater' seems overused to me. With artists who are 'moving things around on stage, often, the object becomes a puppet. For me, the object must retain its properties, and not become something else when it's played with. For example, a fork must remain what it is. I love that fiction permits an object to be it's own truth. In my studio, there are only recognizable objects, manufactured objects that I glean from flea markets. I want to give an object back its own value, and at the same time change the way we look at it, as the Surrealists did: that gives rise to freedom of thought!" (Agnés Limbos) |
