Compagnie Gare Centrale

Since founding Compagnie Gare Centrale in 1984, Agnés Limbos has created 11 original shows, developing, step by step, her artistic research on Object Theater and the Actor / Manipulator.

Passionate about theater, discovering miniature toys in soapboxes, and fascinated by contemplations of the trees and the sky, Agnés spent part of her childhood in Africa, and studied political science and philosophy. Preferring worldly roads to university desks, she began a personal journey which brought her to, among other places, the Internationale Mime Mouvement Théâtre Jacques Lecoq school in Paris from 1977 to 1979, Mexico from 1980 to 1982, and to the creation of Compagnie Gare Centrale in Brussels in 1984.

Through the company's performances and collaborations, Agnés Limbos attempts to make quality People's Theater, full of feelings, beginning with an understanding of the universe's contradictions, fantasy/reality, tragedy/comedy, the power of instinct, and the search for an ever-evolving visual and corporeal language. In short, to create living, entertaining, touching and convivial performances.

She works as a writer, actor, director, and teacher, and mentors young creators throughout their artistic process. Her shows have been seen in numerous theater festivals and have been presented in over 25 countries.

From 2002 to 2008, Théâtre de la Balsamine (Brussels) gave Compagnie Gare Centrale "carte blanche" to organize a Christmastime festival highlighting work created within the genre of Object Theater:

  • in 2002 : En Voiture Festival
  • in 2004 : Les Invendables Festival
  • in 2006 : Le Grand Comptoir des objets perdus Festival
  • in 2008 : Pochette surprise Festival

Squatting Poetic and Compagnie Karyatides

Since 2004, Compagnie Gare Centrale has accompanied three artists, poetic squatters: Karine Birgé, Marie Delhaye and Isabelle Darras (see the section on Squatting Poetic). Among the performances born of this artistic and administrative mentorship are Le Destin (Destiny), Déviations (Detours) and Fragile.

In 2009, Karine Birgé and Marie Delhaye founded their own company, Compagnie Karyatides (www.karyatides.net). Their performances Madame Bovary and Carmen were among those mentored by Agnés Limbos.
